The Winter Holidays are quickly approaching.  It is important for everyone to remember at this special time the many different cultural celebrations we participate in with our families.  Next week, during technology you will have a chance to learn more about your own cultural celebration and about the cultural celebrations of your classmates.  The survey is below.

Hello Second Graders!

Today we are going to start by Exploring the Scrub Club Website to learn more about handwashing.  Remember to put on your headphones for this activity so that you don’t disturb your neighbor.  Click the link below to go to the Scrub Club Website.  Then look for the link to the Stop Fluin Around Activity.  Watch the interactive video first and then click Go to Game to take a quiz about what you have learned.  Be prepared to share with Mrs. Trudden what you learned when you are finished.

Now that you have finished your Thankful Activity, you may play on the following Thanksgiving themed online games.

Today you are going to investigate the First Thanksgiving. Before you enter the website below, think about what you already know about the first Thanksgiving.  Using the KWL chart fill in 5 ideas in the What I Think I Know column.  Then write 5 questions in the What I Want to Know column.  Do not complete the What I have Learned column.

Now it’s time to investigate.  Start by examining the Fact or Myth and The Evidence Sections.  After you have investigated those sections it’s time to learn more about the people who were there at the time of the 1st Thanksgiving.  Turn your KWL chart KWL chart over to see which group of people you have been assigned to investigate.  Click on the link for the Wampanoag or the English Colonists and look for answers to the items on the charts while you investigate about the Cultures of these people.  Finally click the link the Path to 1621 and investigate to learn even more about what happened before the 1st Thanksgiving.

When you are done investigating, go back to your KWL chart and record 5 new facts in the What I have Learned column.  Turn in your paper to Mrs. Trudden when you are finished.  If you finish early you may practice your typing on Dance Mat Typing.

Wow!  What a great start to the year!  You have all done a great job following our daily procedures in technology and have earned free time for your class today!  Take a look at the some of the things below that you can spend your free time doing.

Computer Applications

Remember you have several programs on your computer that you can have fun with!  Use applications such as Pixie 2, Kidspiration, or Photobooth.  Use your spotlight  to search for the program and then click to open it.

Activities Online

Feel free to visit the following websites online and explore, play games, and have fun.

Today you will have a special presentation of Romeow and Drooliet on the projector at the front of the room.  After watching the video, use the lined paper and pencils provided to write 3 sentences telling the main details/summary of the story.  Remember to include one sentence from the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  Finally, when you have finished, turn in your paper and then you may explore the Dirt on Soil Website.  See you tomorrow!

Next in  Technology we are going to be exploring the water cycle in more detail and making an interactive Water Cycle in PowerPoint.  Today first start by watching and learning about Thirstin’s Water Cycle.  Answer the questions on the Online Quiz when you’re finished.
